Kofasil®Life M
Contains Lactobacillus buchneri which speedily induces lactic acid fermentation whilst at the same time forming some acetic acid
Yeast and mould are effectively suppressed by the acetic acid thus ensuring an improvement in AEROBIC STABILITY.
Formation of acetic acid is limited to the minimum necessary so that there are no negative effects on the taste of the silage.
Suitable for maize silage, wholecrop silage and any high DM grass silage where there is a high risk of aerobic instability (heating up) at feedout.

“I am glad we used Kofasil. The alternative that was on offer would have cost us  3½    times more. There are no wastes at all, it keeps it cold and the cattle are doing extremely well”.

IRN is presenting you with the opportunity to use added value silage additives that combines the consistency of live additives with the simplicity of a freeze-dried additive for the first time.

Consistency Is The Key Word Here!!

Wouldn't you agree that it's crazy to think you'll get different results if you keep using the same thing over and over again? If I keep touching a hot stove and kept getting burned - I'd be silly to think the next time I touch that hot stove I won't get burnt.

That's why you need to try something different…

KOFASIL is only available to farmers in UK through IRN. In UK, Kofasil®Life & Kofasil®Life M are promoted through network of agents and merchants.

In Deciding What Silage Additive to Use This Year, Please Remember The Following Points!!!

1. Live additives are the best alternative to an acid preservative. So, don’t settle for the 2nd or 3rd best

2. All the usual reservations and snags that are associated with live additives have been removed in Kofasil®Life & Kofasil®Life M

3. Kofasil®Life & Kofasil®Life M are therefore Hassle-Free
4. Both additives carry DLG seal of approval

5. Both additives will remain active for up to 10 days  at room temperature after activation.

6. Both additives have been tried and tested in UK, Germany and some other EU countries.

7. Kofasil®Life M is equipped to improve Aerobic Stability

8. Should you still prefer a ready to apply product, let me recommend Kofasil®Duo.

9. Kofasil®Duo is equipped to improve feeding value and aerobic stability

P.S. Your investment in silage additive is peanuts compared to what it will cost you to maintain target performance level with concentrates or mycotoxins binder.

Can you afford not to use one?!!!

Of course it is possible to make a good silage without a silage additive. However, "the use of Muck/slurry  on Silage Fields and Poor Weather Condition at harvest are Making it Almost Impossible to Escape Fermentation by bad bugs like Clostridia, Listeria, Enterobacteria, Yeast and Moulds... "

You will agree with me that the best way to increase your herd’s profitability is to get extra mileage from conserved forages. To achieve this goal, good quality silage must be fed.

To improve silage quality you have to:

1. harvest at the right maturity stage,

2. avoid stop and start when filling the clamp (silo),

3. achieve good consolidation,

4. use the right type of silage additive and

5. ensure good silo management during feeding

So, using silage additive is just one of the ingredients that will allow you to make good quality silage. However, because the prevailing weather condition and some other farm management practices  can make it almost impossible for you to make good silage, you really cannot afford not to use a silage additive.

The fundamental reason to invest in silage inoculants is to insure there are enough lactic acid bacteria for optimum silage preservation.

There is an overwhelming consensus in the literature as to the beneficial effect of using the right type of silage additive on farm profitability.

A return on investment of  anything from 4:1 to 7:1 that are typically reported in favour of using silage additives, justifies a small investment in what is the most important feed on the farm. The last thing you want will be to end up with silages that are not pulling their weight in milk yield and/ or weight gain.

Considering the payback, your investment in silage additive is going to be peanuts compared to what it will cost you to maintain target performance level with concentrate or mycotoxins binders.

So, You Really Can’t Afford Not To Use One Because:

1. Mycotoxins threats are very real.

2. Prevailing weather condition and the use of muck are making it almost impossible to stop fermentation by bad bugs.

3. It will cost you a lot more to make up for lost quality with bought in feed or binders

4. The payback is very good

But, How Do You Know Which One To Use?
The simple answer is to use the one that has been demonstrated, beyond reasonable doubt, to give the fastest pH drop. The faster an additive is able to bring the pH down to below 5 the more the nutrients that will be preserved.

This is why an acid preservative is usually considered to be the best. But, acid additives are very expensive and are no longer popular because of the health risks associated with some of  them.

By virtue of the fact that life additives will effect a faster pH reduction than any other inoculant preparation, they are the best alternative to acid preservatives.

By pre-culturing the lactic acid bacteria before adding to your silage, you have eliminated any lag time.
The bacteria in life additives will therefore dominate fermentation quicker than those of any ready to use inoculant preparation. For this simple reason, life additives are a lot more consistent than any ready to use inoculant preparation.

This chart is an excellent illustration of how quickly live additive will effect a pH reduction compared to a ready to use liquid, dry or no additives.

Note that it took less than 24 hours to reduce the pH to below 5 with live additives. Compare this with about 72 hours for the next best ready to use inoculant preparation

If Live Additives Are This Good, Why Are Ready-To-Use Inoculants Popular?

The simple answer is that the live additives that are commonly available to farmers do come with a lot of obstacles both in their preparation and usage. For example:

1.
You will require some training to ascertain when they are ready to be used
2.
You will also require things like; hot plate, controlled room temperature, pH monitor etc.
3. They are not flexible (has to be used within 2 to 3 days of culture)
4.
The bugs used in some can tolerate very low pH. Very acidic silages are therefore not uncommon with some live additives.
5.
They are not equipped to improve aerobic stability. So, not suitable for arable silage.

KOFASIL Range of Live Additives Are Different!!!

ü  Their preparations are totally hassle-free. No more hot plate or pH monitor or training. All you need to do is add water and the colour change will tell you when it is ready.

ü  Plus, activated culture will remain active for up to 10 days at room temperature

ü  And, Kofasil life M is equipped to improve aerobic stability.

ü  They will not result into very acidic silage.

ü They carry the Gerrman Ministry of Agriculture (DLG) seal of approval

Kofasil®Life & Kofasil®Life M Have Now Been Tried and Tested in UK

IRN can now support independent research data, the DLG seal of approval and the experiences of farmers in Germany/ other EU countries, with experiences of farmers here in UK. Hundreds of farmers are now benefiting from the use of
Kofasil®Life & Kofasil®Life M.

And you can also benefit from their use too…

Here is what some of the users say;

“I started promoting Kofasil in 2007 and I now have a core group of farmers that use it. I also use Kofasil life on baled grass silage for my sheep. Knowing that it worked gives me more confidence to sell it. To me the biggest selling point for Kofasil is the ease with which they can be prepared. If you have tried any other live additive before, you will appreciate what I am saying after you try Kofasil”.
Clwyd Roberts (Kofasil Agent and farmer)
Llangernyw, Conwy
